Dance Of The Butterflies
Year created: 2021
“Once upon a time, I dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was myself. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.”
― Zhuangzi
One of my favorite places to explore is the Oxford Natural History Museum. On one visit, I became captivated by the butterflies, photographing them through the glass. Later, I cut them out and collaged them together, the final pieces that brought this artwork to life.
Butterflies have become a recurring theme in my work, inspiring me with their transformation, diverse beauty, and the way they embrace each fleeting, delicate moment of their transient lives. They’re a reminder of life’s preciousness and the quiet magic waiting to be noticed in our everyday world - all we have to do is wake up.
Are we living in our dreams, or are our dreams living in us?
